The benefits and feasibility of electric garbage trucks make a compelling case. They travel at mostly low speeds, with plenty of starting and stopping over short distances on predictable routes. Electrification of course brings the benefit of lower sound and no diesel emissions as these hulking haulers meander through neighbourhoods. Recently, waste service Recology has just taken delivery of their first BYD fully electric refuse truck in Seattle. Meanwhile, at WasteExpo 2019, Mack (a subsidiary of Volvo) unveiled their new zero emission garbage truck.
